VietNamNet Bridge – A group of students from the Hanoi Conservatory of Music have returned from an international music contest in Jakarta, Indonesia with four first, one second and two third prizes.

The music competition in Jakarta, which ran from August 7th-15th, was the third of its type. Participating in the contest was 110 pianist and violinists from 12 Southeast Asian countries aswell as South Korea and China.
This year Vietnam participated in both piano and violin competitions. Earlier it only took part in the piano category in the two previously held competitions.
Vietnam’s Do Hoang Linh Chi, 12, won the first prize for the under-13 piano category. The three other first prizes belonged to violinists Hoang Ho Khanh Van, 12, in the U-13 category, Nguyen Thien Minh, 16, in the 14-17 year-old category and Tran Quang Duy, in the over 18-year-old category.
The second and third prizes went to Nguyen Linh Uyen, 15, who won the second prize for violinist in the category for people aged 14-17, Nguyen Luong Minh, 12, the third prize for pianist at the age of under 13 and Bui Cam Ly, 17, the third prize for violinist at the age of 14-17.
The group’s leader, Prof. Dr. People’s Teacher Tran Thu Ha, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Conservatory of Music, said that this was the first time the Conservatory brought such a large number of students – 12 – to the contest. The students who participated were selected from national music contests and brought to the international competition.
Prof. Thu Ha and Prof. Dr. People’s Teacher Ngo Van Thanh, Director of the Hanoi Conservatory of Music joined the competition’s jury. However, they were not allowed to mark their students.
Prof. Thu Ha said that this is a very fair competition and Vietnamese contestants proved their talents. “However, our students need to practice more to attend upcoming international music contests,” she said.
